Remote Sensing Center Participates in a Master’s Thesis Defense at the Department of Surveying Engineering Techniques / Technical Engineering College – Kirkuk

The Director of the Remote Sensing Center, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Ramzi Quba, was selected as a member of the committee for the defense of a Master’s thesis at the Technical Engineering College – Kirkuk / Department of Surveying Engineering Techniques, entitled:

“Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) Techniques to Analyze and Evaluate the Selection of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Site: A Case Study of the Unified Sewerage Project in Kirkuk.”

The defense took place on Sunday, 4 January 2026.

The thesis presented an analytical and evaluative study aimed at selecting the optimal site for a wastewater treatment plant in the city of Kirkuk, which is still under construction, in light of the city’s ongoing lack of central wastewater treatment facilities. The study primarily sought to analyze and evaluate the proposed site for the wastewater treatment plant using GIS techniques integrated with Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods, in order to reach a scientifically sound site selection that considers environmental, engineering, and planning aspects. The research also aimed to support decision-makers and contribute to sustainable water resources management in Kirkuk Governorate.

The results confirmed the possibility of adopting the proposed model as an effective decision-support tool for planning authorities in the city and governorate of Kirkuk when selecting future wastewater treatment plant sites.
