Remote Sensing Center Participates in PhD Thesis Defense at the College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul

Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Omar, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Engineering Sciences at the Remote Sensing Center, participated on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, as a member of the PhD thesis defense committee at the Department of Forestry Sciences, College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul, for student Ikhlas Momand Hamad. The thesis was titled “Estimating the Origin and Composition of the Growing Stock and Biomass of Natural Forests in Northern Iraq.” It aimed to estimate the growing stock and biomass of natural trees in Duhok and Erbil, and to understand forest composition and species distribution using field measurements and statistical analysis. This study is important because it contributes to the conservation of terrestrial ecosystems (Sustainable Development Goal 15). Sustainably managing natural resources. Enhancing forest productivity as an economic and environmental resource and contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change (Sustainable Development Goal 13) by estimating the role of biomass in storing.
