Remote Sensing Center Participates in the 18th Iraqi Geological Conference in Baghdad

Within the framework of enhancing scientific and research presence

The Remote Sensing Center participated in the activities of the 18th Iraqi Geological Conference, held in Baghdad during 16–17 December, with the participation of a distinguished group of researchers and specialists from various Iraqi universities and scientific institutions.

The Center was represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Ramzi Quba’a, Director of the Remote Sensing Center, Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Nabil Hamdoun, and Mr. Sabah Hussein Ali. Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Nabil Hamdoun chaired the session dedicated to remote sensing and presented the research paper entitled:

“Selecting the Optimal Sites for Sanitary Landfill in Mosul City Using Remote Sensing Datasets”

The study highlights the application of remote sensing techniques and geospatial data to identify optimal locations for sanitary landfills in Mosul City following the proposed urban expansion, contributing to sustainable urban planning and mitigating negative environmental impacts.

This participation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 13: Climate Action.
