The Remote Sensing Center Organizes a Geological Field Trip North of Mosul on the Occasion of Geodiversity Day

On the occasion of Geodiversity Day, a group of faculty members from the Remote Sensing Center at the University of Mosul organized a geological field trip to areas north of Mosul on October 6, 2026. The trip aimed to explore the region’s geological diversity, natural characteristics, and distinctive rock formations.

The field trip included on-site visits to examine geological structures and formations, study landforms and geomorphological characteristics, and highlight the importance of geological heritage in understanding the natural and environmental evolution of the region. Participants also explored the role of geological features in urban construction and their significance in identifying potential natural hazards associated with these features.

The activity further aimed to raise awareness of the importance of geodiversity and the conservation of sites of scientific and natural value, connect theoretical knowledge with field applications, and provide opportunities for scientific knowledge exchange among participants.

This activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Climate Action, by supporting environmental awareness and promoting a better understanding of natural systems and environmental challenges.
