1. Title

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Policy – University of Mosul

2. Purpose / Objectives

This policy aims to foster a fair, safe, and inclusive educational and working environment where all individuals have equal opportunities, diversity is respected in all its forms, and all kinds of discrimination are actively prevented.

3. Scope

The policy applies to all students, faculty members, administrative and technical staff, visitors, as well as local and international partners engaged with the university or participating in its activities.

4. Principles / Commitments

  1. Non-Discrimination: Prohibit all forms of discrimination based on gender, race, religion, disability, social status, sexual orientation, or any other personal attribute.

  2. Mutual Respect: Treat all individuals with dignity and promote a culture of dialogue, openness, and respect.

  3. Equal Opportunities: Ensure that academic and professional advancement is based solely on merit and competence.

  4. Fair Representation: Strive to include and represent diverse groups in leadership and decision-making roles.

  5. Equitable Access: Guarantee that all individuals, including persons with disabilities, have access to facilities, services, and educational opportunities.

5. Procedures / Implementation Mechanisms

  • Training and Education: Develop and implement training programs on equality, diversity, and inclusion for all students and staff.

  • Specialized Committee: Establish an EDI Committee responsible for monitoring implementation and making recommendations.

  • Reporting Channels: Provide safe and confidential mechanisms for reporting discrimination or lack of inclusivity, ensuring fair and transparent resolution.

  • Policy Review: Regularly review university policies and procedures to ensure alignment with equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.

6. Responsibilities

  • University Presidency: Overall supervision and ensuring institutional commitment to the policy.

  • EDI Committee: Monitor implementation, provide recommendations, and prepare annual progress reports.

  • Colleges and Departments: Integrate EDI principles into daily academic and administrative practices.

  • Student Affairs Office & Human Resources: Address complaints and oversee related initiatives.

7. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Prepare annual reports outlining the university’s compliance with EDI principles.

  • Conduct regular surveys to assess satisfaction and the sense of inclusion within the university community.

  • Use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as:

    • Number of complaints related to discrimination.

    • Representation of diverse groups in leadership roles.

    • Student and staff satisfaction rates.

8. Review and Updates

This policy shall be reviewed annually by the EDI Committee and updated in accordance with national legislation and international best practices in higher education.
