1. Title
University of Mosul Policy on the Identification and Protection of Threatened Species
2. Purpose / Objective
This policy aims to safeguard local biodiversity and protect species at risk of extinction through their identification, monitoring, and the preservation of their natural habitats. It also seeks to minimize the negative impacts of university activities on the environment and to strengthen the University’s role in raising environmental awareness while adhering to international conservation standards.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all university facilities, research, educational, and service-related activities at the University of Mosul. It also extends to surrounding areas potentially affected by university operations, including rivers, gardens, and nearby natural habitats.
4. Principles / Commitments

Biodiversity Conservation: commitment to protecting threatened species listed in the IUCN Red List or national protection lists.

Environmental Sustainability: ensuring that all university projects consider the protection of natural habitats for species.

Partnership and Collaboration: working with environmental authorities and local and international experts to develop best practices.

Education and Awareness: fostering environmental culture among students and staff through educational and awareness programs.
5. Procedures / Implementation Mechanisms

Environmental Surveys: conducting regular field studies to identify and classify threatened species.

Environmental Assessments: carrying out environmental evaluations prior to any infrastructure project or expansion to prevent harm to species or their habitats.

8. Periodic Review
