The 11th Specialized Scientific Symposium Held at the Center for Dams and Water Resources Research

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Dr. Ali Mohammed Suleiman, Deputy Director of the Center, the Center for Dams and Water Resources Research held its 11th Specialized Scientific Symposium on Monday, May 5, 2025, under the theme:
“Integrated Water Resources Management under Climate Change.”

The symposium was held at the Scientific and Literary Forum Hall at the University of Mosul, and was attended by a distinguished group of professors, researchers, academics, and directors of relevant departments and institutions.

This event comes as part of the University’s ongoing commitment to serving the community and strengthening collaboration with government institutions.

The opening session began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Ali Mohammed Suleiman, followed by the keynote lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Othman, Head of the Water Resources Department, titled:
“The Water Reality in Iraq and Future Challenges.”

The symposium aimed to shed light on the growing challenges facing water resources management due to climate change, emphasizing the need for modern planning methods and advanced technologies to achieve efficiency and sustainability.

Six scientific lectures were presented during the symposium by a select group of academics and researchers from the University of Mosul and related governmental departments in Nineveh Province. These lectures included field studies and research addressing various issues related to water resources management, along with practical, scientifically-based solutions supported by modern technologies.

At the conclusion of the symposium, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the participating researchers in recognition of their scientific efforts and valuable contributions. The event concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening water resources management and enhancing scientific cooperation with local and international entities to support integrated water resources management.
