The Center Organizes a Scientific Workshop on “The Impacts of Turkish Dams and Climate Change on Water Resources in Iraq”

The Dams and Water Resources Research Center, in cooperation with the Department of Planning and Follow-up / Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency, held a scientific workshop entitled:
“The Impacts of Turkish Dams and Climate Change on Water Resources in Iraq”
on December 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Center’s meeting hall, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anas Mahmoud Mohammed Rashid, faculty member and researcher.

Workshop Overview:
The workshop addressed the effects of Turkish dams on the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, in addition to the impacts of climate change on water scarcity in Iraq, the reduction in river flows, and the increased effects of desertification in the country.

Workshop Recommendations:

  1. Develop optimal plans for managing Iraq’s water resources.

  2. Reach an agreement with Turkey to ensure fair water shares of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers for Iraq.

  3. Utilize modern irrigation techniques in agriculture.

  4. Raise public awareness on the importance of rational water consumption.
