The University of Mosul Shines Again on the Global Scientific Scene

A Pioneering Study in Secure Communication for the Oil and Gas Industry

Once again, the University of Mosul has achieved a remarkable milestone in its scientific and research journey. Mr. Sinan Basil Al-Chalabi, a staff member at the University’s Computer Center, earned high honors for a pioneering research study on secure communication systems for the oil and gas industry. His distinguished master’s thesis, titled “Development of an Adaptive Secure Communication System for IIoT-WSN and Cloud in the Oil and Gas Industry,” was presented at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.

The study focused on developing an adaptive and secure communication system tailored to support critical operations in the oil and gas sector, which is a vital and strategic industry. It aims to enhance the security and efficiency of communication systems used in this field by integrating Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), and cloud computing.

The system seeks to:

Strengthen data protection during transmission between devices.

Enable efficient management and real-time analysis of data.

Reduce power consumption and improve the performance of wireless devices.

The research was supervised by Professor Gui Yun Tian, a globally renowned expert in communication technologies.

The thesis was reviewed by an academic committee comprising:

Professor Gui Yun Tian

Professor Said Boussakta

Dr. Kabita Adhikari

Dr. Zhuang Shao

Dr. Alex Bystrov

The committee highly praised the research for its scientific significance and practical applications, which are expected to enhance the security and sustainability of operations in the oil and gas industry.

Mr. Sinan Basil Al-Chalabi was officially awarded his master’s degree on October 23, 2024.

He was honored during an official ceremony held on December 2, 2024, at Newcastle University, in the presence of faculty members and students. Notably, Mr. Al-Chalabi ranked first among 77 students in his program.
