University President’s Message
University of Mosul is one of the most prominent educational and research institutions in Iraq. Its importance lies in being a distinguished pillar within the system of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, operating under its guidelines, curricula, and regulations. Today, the University encompasses 24 colleges, 8 research and educational centers, a newly established IELTS Testing Center, a National Proficiency Test Center, a medical research center, a specialized teaching hospital, and mobile clinics.
In the realm of scientific publishing, its peer-reviewed journals hold an active and advanced position within the global Scopus database. The University has also secured a strong presence in leading international rankings, despite years of disruption between 2014 and 2017.
Cultural and educational life flourishes on its campus. The University houses several museums and theaters, including a pioneering Puppet Theater unique among Iraqi universities. Its Central Library—once among the world’s largest with nearly one million books and rare manuscripts—has risen proudly again after destruction and burning, regaining its stature as a beacon of knowledge. Likewise, the main theater, restored after devastation, now accommodates nearly 1,000 spectators and serves the city through diverse cultural and artistic events.
Guided by the motto “In the Service of Society”, the University devotes its scientific disciplines to the well-being of the community. It actively pursues sustainable development, reducing emissions and protecting the environment through its projects and initiatives to ensure a better tomorrow. With continuous adaptation to global scientific progress, the University introduces new specializations that serve its students and the nation.
Since its founding in 1967, the University of Mosul has been a natural home for talent, research, and achievement. With bold steps in every academic, research, and cultural direction, it reaffirms its role as a vital center of knowledge, creativity, and innovation—and will continue to do so for generations to come.
