University of Mosul Water Reuse Maximization Policy
1. Title
University of Mosul Policy for Maximizing Water Reuse
2. Purpose / Objectives
This policy aims to conserve water resources by promoting efficient use of potable water within the university campus and adopting sustainable practices for water reuse. The objective is to protect the environment, reduce pressure on natural resources, and enhance the university’s role in advancing sustainable water management.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all university buildings, gardens, and green spaces, covering all water use activities across the University of Mosul campus.
4. Principles / Commitments

Sustainability: Rational management of water resources to ensure optimal use.

Environmental Justice: Prioritizing potable water for essential human needs only.

Innovation: Adoption of water recycling and treatment systems for alternative uses.

Social Responsibility: Raising awareness among students and staff on the importance of conserving water as a vital resource.
5. Procedures / Implementation Mechanisms

Recycling and Treatment: Operate wastewater treatment facilities on campus to reuse treated water for irrigating gardens and green areas.

Waste Prevention: Prohibit the use of potable or sterilized water for secondary purposes such as irrigation or outdoor cleaning.

Infrastructure Development: Establish separate distribution networks to safely and efficiently utilize recycled water.

Awareness and Engagement: Organize awareness campaigns to encourage the university community to support reuse practices and rational consumption.
6. Responsibilities

College of Environmental Sciences: Provide technical support and academic supervision for water treatment and reuse processes.

Administrative Affairs Department / Maintenance and Services Division: Oversee the operation of treatment facilities and implement the operational plan for recycled water use.

University Administration: Allocate resources and secure funding to expand water recycling projects.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation

Conduct regular measurements of the ratio between recycled water and potable water used.

Prepare semi-annual reports presenting the results of water reuse practices and levels of compliance.

Assess environmental and health impacts of treated water use to ensure compliance with national standards.
8. Review and Updates
This policy shall be reviewed every two years by the Maintenance and Services Division in coordination with the College of Environmental Sciences, and updated in line with advances in technology or new environmental requirements.
