With the Participation of the President of Mosul University, the Initiative of “Ghiras Al-Rahma” Continues Toward a Greener University

Mosul University continues to implement its environmental initiative, “Ghiras Al-Rahma”, which was launched earlier this year with the goal of expanding green spaces, raising environmental awareness among its staff and students, and embodying its vision to become a sustainable, eco-friendly university.

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of Mosul University, participated in the latest campaign activities of the initiative on the university campus. The campaign involved planting various types of saplings and trees in several key areas across the university.

The campaign was supervised by the Agricultural Unit in the Administrative Affairs(Diwan) Department, in collaboration with the Media and Government Communications Department, and was attended by Professor Dr. Manal Rafat Khalid, Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, along with faculty members, staff, and students, in a voluntary atmosphere that reflected a strong sense of belonging and commitment to the university’s environment.

During his participation, the university president emphasized that this initiative is part of Mosul University’s strategic direction in supporting national efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 13 related to climate action. He noted that environmental preservation is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation from all components of the university.

He further explained that “Ghiras Al-Rahma” has become a recurring model of institutional volunteerism that combines environmental, awareness, and community service aspects, confirming that the university will continue to implement new stages of the initiative across various colleges and centers during the current season.

This campaign is part of Mosul University’s vision to transform into a green university that adopts sustainable practices in education, research, and community service.
