The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed the master’s thesis tagged “The budget deficit and its implications on economic performance indicators (an analytical study in a number of developing countries heavily indebted to foreign debt) for the period (1990-2020)”

Part of it was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Thair Ahmed Saadoon Al-Samman.
The current study presented by the student “Sardar Muhammad Haidar” in the Department of Economics aimed to clarify the mechanism of the relationship between the budget deficit and macroeconomic performance indicators in developing countries complaining of high external debt, namely (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Egypt) for the period 1990-2020, and the research has adopted the hypothesis that the budget deficit raises inflation rates in these countries, and that the budget deficit has negative repercussions on the rate of economic growth.

The study concluded several conclusions, the most important of which are: that the impact of the budget deficit on economic performance indicators is characterized by ambiguity, and this ambiguity is due to the mechanism used by the state to benefit from its revenues in light of its expenditures, and that foreign debt can have positive effects on growth and neutrality in inflation in light of the state’s success in benefiting from these debts, and this opens the door for further studies on this unresolved topic.
The discussion committee was headed by Prof. Dr. Hashim Muhammad Al-Arkub, and the membership of Assistant Professor Mr. Hamid Hassan Khalaf from the University of Tikrit, and Assistant Professor Mrs. Rafah Adnan Najm, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Saadoun Hussein Farhan.
