Under the slogan “The path of development: challenges and gains”, and under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Professor Dr. Thaeir Ahmed Saadoon Al-Samman, the Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul organized a scientific symposium entitled “The path of development: challenges and gains”, on Sunday 5/16/2025 in Discussion Hall No. (2), in the presence of the Dean’s assistants for scientific and administrative affairs, and a number of faculty members, affiliates and students of the college.

The symposium included the presentation of two research papers, as the first session dealt with:
The first research paper: “The path of development… Available opportunities and challenges presented”, presented by Professor Dr. Mufid Thanoon Younis and Assistant Professor Dr. Aws Fakhr Al-Din Al-Juwaijati.
The second research paper: “The Iraqi Strategic Project: The Development Road between Ambition and Challenge”, presented by Professor Hashim Mohammed Al-Arkoub and Assistant Professor Dr. Nizar Siddiq Elias.
Objectives of the symposium and discussion topics..
The symposium aimed to shed light on the Iraqi Development Road Project, as one of the ambitious strategic projects, aiming to enhance the economic infrastructure and link Iraq with neighboring countries and the European continent. The researchers discussed the importance of the project in:
Achieving economic integration between Iraq and the countries of the region.
Developing the transportation sector by extending roads and providing modern means of transportation.
Contributing to solving the water crisis through the seawater desalination plan in Basra.
Building industrial cities that contribute to the resettlement of industry and achieving economic transformation.
Establishing residential cities located 10 to 20 kilometers away from major city centers, which helps solve the housing problem.
It was also emphasized that the project includes the establishment of a network of expressways and the extension of modern railway lines, which contributes to improving trade movement, as the Grand Faw Port is the main point of launch for this ambitious project.
The symposium concluded with extensive discussions on the importance of the Development Road Project and its impact on economic and investment development in Iraq, emphasizing the need to develop clear policies to ensure the success and sustainability of the project.
With this symposium, the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul confirmed its role in enhancing economic awareness and contributing to the discussion of strategic projects that would support the national economy and achieve sustainable development.
