As part of its efforts to broaden the horizons of modern accounting thought, the Accounting Department at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul organized a scientific workshop titled: “The Green Budget as an Approach to Developing the Federal Budget to Meet Sustainable Development Goals.” The event was held at 10:00 a.m. in Hall No. (2) at the college.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs, along with a number of professors and specialists.

The workshop was presented by:

Professor Dr. Luqman Mohammed Ayoub Al-Dabbagh

Lecturer Dr. Rafi Nazar Jamil Naoumi

The session addressed the importance of transforming the national budget into a green budget that integrates environmental considerations into public financial policies. This transformation reflects a natural extension of governments’ efforts to balance economic growth with environmental protection. The workshop also shed light on green accounting as a vital tool for measuring organizations’ environmental performance, using global indicators such as GRI, SASB, and international sustainability standards (IFRS S1 & S2).

The presenters emphasized that such proposals represent a qualitative shift in financial and accounting thinking, contributing to Iraq’s vision of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by redesigning financial policies based on environmental and responsible foundations.
