A PhD Dissertation in the Department of Economics Discusses: “The First Industrial Revolution Between Cognitive Change and Violent Change within the Framework of Economic Growth Theories” Thursday, June 19, 2025

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul – discussed the PhD dissertation titled:
“The First Industrial Revolution Between Cognitive Change and Violent Change within the Framework of Economic Growth Theories”.

The current study, submitted by the student Bawar Ahmed Haji from the Department of Economics, aimed to address a highly significant issue: the impacts brought about by the First Industrial Revolution in the mid-18th century, within the context of economic growth theories. The research sheds light on the nature of the cognitive transformation that accompanied this period, particularly through what is known as “technological and cognitive changes.”

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which was that the countries where the First Industrial Revolution took place were able, early on, to increase their economic growth rates and significantly reduce illiteracy rates. This finding underscores that genuine progress occurs in societies where education and its tools are accessible to the broad base of the population.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hashim Mohammed Abdullah, and included as members: Prof. Dr. Redha Sahib Abu Hamad from the University of Kufa, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aws Fakhreddin Ayoub, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Khudhur Abtan, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Adeeb Ibrahim, with Prof. Dr. Mufeed Thanoon Younis as both a member and supervisor.
