The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed the doctoral dissertation entitled “Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Customs Tariffs on the Structure of Foreign Trade and the Economic Performance of Developed and Developing Countries for the Period 1990–2022.”
The session was attended in part by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs.
The current study, submitted by the student “Omar Hawas Hassan” in the Department of Economics, aimed to:
1. Explore the theoretical and philosophical aspects of foreign trade and economic growth.
2. Present and analyze the trends in the development of foreign trade and economic growth rates in developed and developing countries during the period 1990–2022.
The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which is that customs tariffs negatively affect foreign trade and economic performance, especially in the long run, as they reduce production and trade exchange due to focusing on revenue generation rather than development.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hashim Mohammed Abdullah, with members including Prof. Dr. Abdulrazzaq Hamad Hussein from Tikrit University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Rabah Jameel Saaduddin, Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Hisham Sabah, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan, with Prof. Dr. Saad Mahmoud Khalil as a member and supervisor.
