From the heart of academic research towards supporting financial stability… The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul discusses a master’s thesis on the determinants of interest rate spreads in the Arab banking sector on Sunday, August 17, 2025

The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul held a discussion session for the master’s thesis submitted by the student Barzan Khidr Khadida Ismail Al-Salim, entitled:
“The Main Determinants of Interest Rate Spread in the Banking Sector – Evidence from Arab Countries.” The discussion took place in Hall No. (1).

The study aimed to identify the key matrix of determinants affecting the interest rate spread, which varied between factors related to the banks’ internal environment and others connected to the surrounding macroeconomic environment.

The research findings revealed that internal banking factors had the greatest impact compared to macroeconomic factors, reflecting the importance of efficient internal management and effective operational policies in achieving financial stability in the banking sector.

The session was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, and the Associate Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, reaffirming the College’s continuous support for researchers in their academic journey.

This research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), given its implications for enhancing the efficiency of the banking system and its role in supporting economic growth and ensuring long-term financial stability.
