Financial Investments as a Lever for Food Security: A Master’s Thesis in the Department of Economics – College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul Reveals the Secrets of Food Sustainability” On Wednesday, August 20, 2025

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul witnessed the defense of a Master’s thesis submitted by the student Bah Freen Jalal Hassan, entitled:
“Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Some Financial Variables on the Sustainability of Food Security in a Selected Sample of Countries,” held in Discussion Hall No. (1).
The study aimed to analyze the key financial variables influencing the sustainability of food security, and to clarify the nature of the relationship between these variables and food security sustainability in a selected sample of countries, with a particular focus on the pivotal role of foreign direct investment.
The findings revealed that foreign direct investment constitutes a supporting factor for food security in high-income countries, as its positive and significant effect was evident in enhancing food sustainability. This underscores the importance of attracting foreign investment to sectors that support food security, whether directly or indirectly.

This study aligns with Goal 2 of the Sustainable Development Goals (Zero Hunger), as it confirms that smart financial investments—particularly foreign direct investment—enhance food security and support the sustainability of agricultural and food production in the targeted countries.
