The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed the master’s thesis tagged “The reflection of the use of macroeconomic variables in addressing the external deficit of a sample of selected countries with a special reference to Iraq”.
Part of it was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Thair Ahmed Saadoon Al-Samman.

The current study presented by the student “Maha Fadel Abbas” in the Department of Economics aimed to find out the impact of macroeconomic variables on the deficit in the balance of payments, and the research sample included each of the countries of Iraq, Peru, Brazil) for the period (1990-2021), and to show the extent to which macroeconomic variables affect bridging the balance of payments deficit, and to know the methods and mechanisms used to address the imbalance in those balances.
The study concluded several conclusions, the most important of which are: the existence of a positive and moral relationship in the long term only between the nominal exchange rate and the current account deficit and its surplus in the State of Iraq, and the existence of a positive and moral relationship in the long term only between the inflation rate and the current account deficit and its surplus in Iraq.

The discussion committee was headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Rabah Jamil Saad El-Din, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Fouad Farhan Hussein from the University of Tikrit, and Assistant Professor Mrs. Rafah Adnan Najm, under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Khader Abtan.
