The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed the master’s thesis tagged “Double Deficit in Iraq and Selected Countries: A Study in its Determinants and Economic and Financial Effects”

The current study presented by the student “Ahmed Meshaal Abed” in the Department of Economics aimed to find out the extent of the relationship between the budget deficit and the current account deficit and clarify the concept of double deficit from the point of view of different economic schools, and analyze the structure of the general budget deficit and the current account deficit of selected countries with a special reference to Iraq, and finally measure the impact of the relationship between the double deficit (the general budget deficit and the current account deficit).

The study concluded several conclusions, the most important of which are: resorting to public debt as a means of financing the public budget deficit would create additional financial burdens on the public budget as a result of increasing debt service burdens, as well as the growing public budget deficit as a result of increasing public spending.

The discussion committee was headed by Prof. Dr. Khalaf Muhammad Hamad Abd from the University of Tikrit, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Saadoun Hussein Farhan, and Assistant Professor Dr. Saraa Salem Daoud, under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Hashem Muhammad Abdullah Al-Arkub.
