A Distinguished Session of the College of Administration and Economics Council – University of Mosul (27th Meeting): A Research Drive Towards Global Recognition via Scopus and Strengthening Sustainable Development Partnerships

The Council of the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul held its 27th regular session on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, chaired by Professor Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, Dean of the College, with the attendance of the Associate Deans for Scientific, Administrative, and Financial Affairs, the Heads of academic departments, and the heads of relevant divisions and units.
The Council discussed a range of academic and administrative issues that reflect the College’s vision for enhancing its performance in line with the University of Mosul’s standing among reputable universities. The most prominent topics included:
Publication in Scopus Databases: A detailed review was presented on the trajectory of research publications indexed in Scopus from 1949 to 2025. It was noted that the University of Mosul’s contributions began after its establishment in 1967, with subsequent decades witnessing steady growth in published research. The meeting highlighted the distinguished contributions of the College’s departments and faculty members, with emphasis on publishing in high-ranking journals (Q1 and Q2).
International Joint Supervision: Encouraging collaborative supervision with regional and international universities for master’s theses and doctoral dissertations to enhance the global dimension of academic research.
Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation: Developing an integrated plan for the 2025–2026 academic year, including program descriptions, laboratory standards, and curriculum updates in line with accreditation requirements.
Educational Process: Ensuring fairness in the distribution of courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, with core postgraduate courses to be taught in English. Faculty members were also encouraged to jointly teach some courses in English.
Administrative Development: Enhancing administrative efficiency through the HR and SIS systems, while stressing the importance of accurately updating faculty CVs in both Arabic and English.
Campus Safety: Emphasizing safety measures across lecture halls, the college library, and storage facilities.
Postgraduate Studies Plan: Reviewing admission policies, particularly for PhD programs, to better align with the needs of society and the College.
Scientific Conferences: Promoting the organization of international scientific conferences in partnership with Arab and foreign universities that serve society, with the requirement that presented research papers be published in Scopus-indexed journals.
The Dean also emphasized the importance of assigning specialized staff from his office to follow up on the decisions and directives issued by the President of the University, as formally adopted by both the University Council and the College Council, while identifying what has been implemented and what remains pending by the departments.
Vision Towards Sustainable Development:
In concluding the session, the Dean affirmed that these initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4 (Quality Education): Through curriculum development, English-medium instruction, and the enhancement of postgraduate studies.
SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): By supporting applied scientific research that contributes to societal and institutional development.
SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): By strengthening international joint supervision and expanding cooperation with global universities.
Through these strategies, the College Council reinforces the University of Mosul’s position not only locally, but also regionally and globally, by advancing rigorous scientific research and strategic planning that supports sustainable development in Iraq and the wider region.
