Field Lecture about “The Importance of Conservation Agriculture in Drylands” in the Agri. Fields at AL-Nimrud Subdistrict.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, a specialized team from the Center of Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research (C.AFCAR), in collaboration with Directorate of Agriculture (DoA) in Nineveh, organized a scientific and practical lecture through a field visit to on of the pioneer farmers in AL-Nimrud Subdistrict. This activity was part of a program aimed at adopting and developing modern agricultural techniques related to the conservation agriculture.
The lectures and field demonstrations were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmood Awad Hussein (Head of the Agricultural Mechanization Technologies Department at the Center), Dr. Islam Abdulstar, and Agri. Eng. Karam Ahmed Fathi. During the activity, the importance of conservation agriculture in drylands was highlighted, along with its role in enhancing sustainable agricultural production, achieving food security, and supporting farmers in adopting modern technologies that improve the efficiency of natural resource utilization while preserving soil and water resources.
The aim of this visit was to carry out an extension and scientific activity that included delivering a scientific lecture and conducting field observations in the farmlands of AL-Nimrud Subdistrict. The aim was to transfer modern technologies in dryland farming and conservation agriculture to farmers, improve crop and soil management efficiency, address field problems, and thereby enhance agricultural production while achieving optimal use of water and soil resources.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
