The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research Continues Its Field Studies to Assess Soil Salinity in Maize Fields

The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul conducted soil salinity tests on maize fields at the center on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Akhleef Nazzal and Assistant Lecturer Thakir Jassim Mohammed. The activity aimed to evaluate salinity levels resulting from fertilization processes and to monitor their effects on crop growth and productivity.
This activity comes within the framework of the center’s ongoing research efforts to monitor soil conditions and analyze the impact of environmental factors on agricultural productivity, contributing to the development of scientific solutions to reduce salinity effects and improve the sustainability of agricultural lands.
The tests also aim to enhance soil and agricultural resource management through diagnosing dissolved salt levels and adopting appropriate measures to minimize their negative impacts on maize crops.
This activity is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
