The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research Continues Its Field Research in Rabia to Monitor the Growth of Wheat and Barley Crops in Farmers’ Fields.

As part of implementing the research plan of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul, and in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a specialized team from the Center, headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammed Saleh, Head of the Genetic Resources Department, conducted a field visit to the Awinat site in Rabia District on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, to follow up on field studies related to the growth stages of wheat and barley crops cultivated in farmers’ fields.
The visit aimed to conduct field observations and collect scientific data related to the current agricultural season, in addition to reviewing the preliminary results comparing conservation and conventional agriculture systems in farmers’ fields, and monitoring the growth response of promising varieties under both agricultural systems.
These follow-up activities are part of a series of field tours carried out by the Center to evaluate crop field performance and monitor crop responses to different environmental conditions, contributing to supporting agricultural production, enhancing sustainability, and improving food security in agricultural areas of Nineveh Province.
This activity is linked to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
-
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
-
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
-
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
-
Goal 13: Climate Action
