Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul Continues Testing Promising Varieties through Harvesting Fields at the Preparatory School of Agriculture in Nineveh.
As part of strengthening cooperation between research and educational institutions, the agricultural fields at the Preparatory School of Agriculture in Nineveh witnessed harvesting operations of barley and broad bean varieties belonging to the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul. These varieties were cultivated within research programs and field experiments aimed at evaluating the productive performance of different cultivars under dry and conservation agriculture conditions.
The harvesting operations were carried out by a specialized team from the Center on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. Researchers confirmed that these experiments are part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to develop and test varieties adapted to local climatic conditions, contributing to food security and the rational use of natural resources, particularly water and soil, through the application of dryland and conservation agriculture principles.
These activities also provide an important educational opportunity for students of the Preparatory School of Agriculture in Nineveh to observe modern research practices and gain hands-on experience in crop management, harvesting operations, and productivity evaluation, thereby enhancing their scientific and professional skills.
The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research continues to implement its research and development programs in cooperation with various academic and agricultural institutions, aiming to disseminate modern agricultural technologies, develop the agricultural sector, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 15 (Life on Land), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
