Biochar as a Sustainable Agricultural Approach to Increase the Growth and Yield of Chickpeas.

As part of the research efforts aimed at developing sustainable agricultural technologies and improving crop productivity in arid and semi-arid environments, Agri. Engineers from AFCAR Center followed up on a research experiment on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The study examined the effect of different levels of biochar on the growth and production of chickpeas—one of the most important strategic legume crops, given its high nutritional and economic value.

This study aims to evaluate the role of biochar in improving the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, as well as increasing the efficiency of water and nutrient use. This is expected to have a positive impact on chickpea plant growth and overall productivity.

This practice aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
