The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research (C.AFCAR) at the University of Mosul, Holds a Workshop titled “Problem of Sinking of Center Pivot Irrigation Wheels in Soil”.

AFCAR center, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, held on Monday, October 5, 2026, a workshop titled “Sinking of Center Pivot Irrigation Wheels in Soil during Irrigation and the Formation of Trenches in the Field which effects negatively on Agricultural Operations.”
The workshop addressed the problem of sinking wheels in soil during irrigation operations and the resulting formation of trenches and deep tracks in fields, which may hinder the implementation of subsequent agricultural operations, in addition to its impact on the movement of agricultural machinery and the efficiency of land utilization.
The workshop included a discussion of the causes of this problem and the factors affecting it, particularly soil nature and moisture content, the weight of center pivot irrigation systems, as well as operating conditions and wheel movement during the irrigation process.
Holding this workshop comes within the framework of AFCAR Center’s keenness to highlight field agricultural problems, discuss them scientifically and technically, and reach applicable recommendations and solutions that serve the agricultural sector and farmers.
The lectures of this workshop are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals, including: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
