Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research Continues Its Field Visits to Monitor the Application of Conservation Agriculture in Sinjar District.

The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research conducted a field visit to the Sinjar Agricultural Division and to the fields of several farmers on Wednesday, 21 January 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to follow up on research plans based on conservation agriculture technology.

The visit focused on assessing the actual implementation of this technology in agricultural fields and reviewing initial indicators of its impact on improving agricultural productivity, rationalizing the use of natural resources, and preserving soil and water properties, in line with the requirements of sustainable management of agricultural resources.

During the visit, researchers from the Center, Asst. Lecturer Nawaf Jasim Mohammed and Asst. Lecturer Ahmed Ibrahim, delivered a scientific awareness lecture to farmers. The lecture addressed the scientific principles of conservation agriculture, its role in reducing soil degradation, lowering production costs, enhancing the efficiency of agricultural inputs, and its contribution to adaptation to climate change.

This visit aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably:

  • No Poverty, by supporting farmers and increasing their productivity.

  • Zero Hunger, through improving agricultural production and strengthening food security.

  • Good Health and Well-being, by providing safe and healthy food.

  • Quality Education, through raising the level of agricultural knowledge among farmers.

  • Decent Work and Economic Growth, by supporting the agricultural sector and improving the local economy.

  • Climate Action, by reducing emissions and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural systems.

This visit comes within the framework of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research efforts to link scientific research with field application and to strengthen the university’s role in providing practical, science-based solutions that contribute to achieving sustainable agricultural development and serving the local community.
