A Master’s thesis at the College of Archaeology discussing (Royal exemption and dedication decrees in ancient Iraq)

The Department of Civilization at the College of Archaeology at the University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis entitled (Royal Exemption and Dedication Decrees in Ancient Iraq) on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Souf’s Hall in the college. Part of the viva was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Yasmine Abdel Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the College of Archaeology and Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Jaber Khalil/ Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, and a number of college staff.

The study presented by the student (Diana Salem Khader) dealt with highlighting important aspects and creating a clear picture

About the nature of the prevailing conditions in ancient Iraq in some periods, through those crises that the country was experiencing and the nature of the king’s role and his clear efforts in issuing decrees regarding exemptions and gifts to alleviate the burdens of the people and win their affection. These circumstances constituted a turning point in the history of ancient Iraq.

The study aims to shed light on an important aspect of the episodes of cultural history in ancient Iraq, which is the aspect related to the issuance of royal decrees of exemption and gifts.

The study dealt with detailing the contents of exemptions and gifts in those decrees during the reign of each king and over.

According to what is available in published cuneiform sources, as well as the nature of royal decrees in ancient Iraq the reasons for it were on the part of the kings at that time.

The discussion/ viva committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Elias Sultan and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Faten Muwaffaq Fadel/ Al-Hamdaniya University/ College of Education for Humanities/ Department of History and Assistant Professor Dr. Haifa Ahmed Abd, under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Hussein Dhaher Hammoud.
