A Workshop entitled(conservation and restoration of a pottery coffin from the Middle Assyrian era)
The College of Archeology / Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage directorate, held a workshop entitled (Conservation and restoration of a pottery coffin from the Middle Assyrian era) delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hassanein Haider Abdel Wahed and Mr. Saad Ahmed Abdel on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. The workshop was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Jaber Khalil, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Lecturer Khalis Abdel Karim Farman, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, and a number of college staff and employees in Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Souf’s hall in the college.
The workshop dealt with the conservation and restoration of a large pottery coffin dating back to the Middle Assyrian era, which was discovered in 2022 by the Italian mission affiliated with the University of Bologna, headed by Professor Nicola Marchetti.
The restoration of the coffin was undertaken by the laboratory unit of the Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage directorate at the request of the Italian mission.
The condition of the coffin was very bad and damaged, and despite this, the work of the restoration team was distinguished and with high precision in accordance with international controls in restoration science.
The process of restoring the coffin took place in several stages, most notably:
