The College of Archaeology discusses the contents of astronomical reports from the Neo-Assyrian era in light of cuneiform sources

The Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages ​​/ College of Archaeology / University of Mosul discussed the doctoral thesis entitled “The contents of astronomical reports from the Neo-Assyrian era (911-612 BC) A study in light of cuneiform sources” on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Part of the viva was attended by the two assistants to the Dean of the College of Archaeology for scientific and administrative affairs and a number of teaching staff.
The thesis submitted by the student Hind Abdul Wahab Jassim aimed to shed light on the most important topics addressed by the astronomical reports sent by specialized scribes to the kings of Assyria in the Neo-Assyrian era
The thesis concluded the interest of the Assyrian kings in astronomical predictions and observations and their keenness to follow up on the reports sent by specialized scribes, as their reports were taken seriously and influenced decision-making among the kings of the Neo-Assyrian era, especially among the kings of the Sargonid dynasty.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Yasmine Abdul Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the College of Archeology, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ali Muhammad Tamim from Tikrit University / College of Arts / Department of Archeology, Prof. Dr. Othman Ghanem Muhammad, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Elias Sultan, Assistant Professor Dr. Nabil Khaled Sheet, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Ali Ahmed.
