Seal making workshop in Mesopotamia at the College of Archaeology

The College of Archaeology / Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages ​​held a workshop entitled (Seal making workshops in Mesopotamia). The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Riya Al-Hajj Younis, former director of the Mosul Museum, and Prof. Dr. Hassanein Haider Abdul Wahid, a professor in the Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in Dr. Bahnam Abu Al-Suf Hall. Part of the workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Yasmine Abdul Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the College. The workshop stated that archaeological excavations have provided us, in addition to cuneiform texts, with valuable information about seal making workshops in Mesopotamia in terms of the name, as well as the contents of these workshops, their locations, and the types of workers in them. Researchers were able, through studying the remains of these workshops and the nature of the seals in terms of the manufacturing material, the details of the artistic scenes executed on them, and the written text written on them, to develop a vision of the nature of the tools used by the seal makers, as well as the technology of this industry. The workshop was attended by a number of college professors and students.
