The master’s thesis of researcher Zahra Mahmoud Muhammad was discussed on Monday, 14/3/2022 in the Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages ​​and marked Proverbs in Mesopotamia in the light of cuneiform sources, a comparative study with the Arabic language. The study included the origin of the literature of proverbs, the history of proverbs, the sources of our information about them, their characteristics, and their study by previous researchers. The study included the most important proverbs that were prevalent in Mesopotamia, which were written in the Sumerian and Akkadian languages, in their Babylonian and Assyrian dialects, and the analysis of these texts and their comparison with verses of the Holy Quran, honorable hadiths, sayings of the wise and Arab proverbs as well as popular proverbs prevailing in Arab countries at the present time under the supervision of Professor Khaled Salem Ismail. It aims to find out the extent of agreement and difference between the meanings, purposes and contents of the ancient Iraqi proverbs and their impact on the meanings and purposes of standard Arabic proverbs and the topics addressed by the owners of this environment in which the proverbs were spoken and common.
