University of Mosul Excavations at the Palace of King Ashurbanipal Focus of a Joint Scientific Workshop

Under the patronage and supervision of Professor Yasmin Abdul Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the College of Archaeology at the University of Mosul, and within the framework of joint scientific cooperation between Iraqi public and private universities, the College of Archaeology at the University of Mosul, in cooperation with Al-Noor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage at Al-Noor University, organized a workshop on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, entitled:
“University of Mosul Excavations at the Palace and Library of King Ashurbanipal.”
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Nabil Nour El-Din Hussein, Director of Al-Noor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, in the Dr. Bahnam Abu Al-Souf Hall.

The workshop was attended by Professor Wael El-Nahhas, Dean of the College of Arts at Al-Noor University, Professor Ahmed Qasim Al-Juma, Head of the Department of Archaeological Tourism, and a select group of staff members and undergraduate and graduate students, giving the event a distinct scientific character and a rich academic dialogue.

The workshop covered the four excavation seasons conducted by the University of Mosul at the palace and library of King Ashurbanipal, presenting the most prominent findings of the archaeological mission and documentary photographs of fieldwork during those seasons.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Nabil Nour El-Din Hussein, on behalf of the Al-Noor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, presented the authority’s excavation log and a collection of documentary archaeological photographs to the college’s deanship, in appreciation of its distinguished efforts in supporting archaeological research projects and its contribution to preserving and protecting national heritage.

This event comes within the framework of the University of Mosul’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and scientific research and support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), thus strengthening the university’s position in serving Iraqi heritage and conducting sound academic research.
