Dean’s speech

Dean’s speech:

The College of Arts is the cornerstone of any scientific and academic university because it deals with the human spirit, arouses his ideas, and allows him to introduce his humanitarian experiences and this is the pillar of creativity. Accordingly, it feeds the individual’s intellectual awareness, which in turn affects the entire communal awareness, and that awareness becomes a flexible tool for the formation and prediction of the future, and to keep pacing with steady scientific development. That awareness also derives from the depth of the originality of humanitarian thought, on the one hand, and from a developed future view that is based on a firm culture, on the other hand.
The College of Arts was founded in 1966, and it consists of ten scientific departments, i.e., the Department of Arabic and its literature, the Department of English and its literature, the Department of Translation, the Department of French, the Department of Turkish, the Department of History, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Media, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Libraries and Knowledge Technologies. The College has active units, such as the Orientalism Unit, the Consulting Office for Translation and Living Languages, and the Unit for Archiving of Documents.
The College of Arts took it upon itself to render services to the community according to specializations of its departments by graduating eligible students who have positive energy for the labor market. The College is still contributing to rendering services to the community at all levels. Moreover, it is always persistent in taking heed of some living languages, which are used a lot in Iraq, consolidating academic conceptions in scientific research, and actively participating in the progress of the development movement in Iraq.
The College of Arts grants bachelor’s degrees to undergraduate students, it also grants master’s and doctorate degrees to postgraduate students, besides the diploma and master’s degrees within the framework of PeaceBuilding and Communal Peace Studies at the Department of Sociology.
The college believes that good education should be adapted to novelties in education. So, it tried to make the new courses of study include a lot of skills, help the community catch up with the latest spectacular developments in the sciences, and prepare students after they graduate to enter the labor market and do well. It is also envisaged that the students who graduate from the college could play a pivotal role in building their own country, Iraq, and rendering it a great country and enabling it to rival other countries in sustainable development.
