M. A. thesis in the Department of English on a study of language interaction in EFL online classes at university level
The Department of English at College of Arts held a viva for a Master of Arts thesis entitled “A Study of Language Interaction in EFL Online Classes at University Level,” on September 06, 2021 in the College of Arts Hall.The thesis submitted by the student (Raghad Esam Mohammad Ali) in the Department of English, dealt with language interaction in English as a foreign language classes at university level in terms of its frequency in general, initiation, i.e. the party, i.e. teacher or students, who starts verbal interaction, frequency in linguistics online classes compared to literature ones, and frequency in terms of students gender, male or female.The study hypothesizes that in EFL online classes, language interaction does not occur as required, language interaction in English as a foreign language online classes is mostly teacher initiated, there are no differences between online Linguistics classes and online literature classes in terms of the frequency of the occurrence of language interaction and there are no differences between male and female students in terms of the frequency of their involvement in language interaction in online classes.The study concluded that due to the educational and pedagogical importance of language interaction, teachers should try their best to increase its frequency and encourage students to initiate it as a means of more involvement in the on-going learning activities.The viva’s committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Naheda Taha Majeed, and the membership of both Assistant Professor Dr. Ansam Ali Ismael from College of Basic Education, University of Mosul and Dr. Ashraf Riyadh Abdullah from, under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Hussein A;I Ahmed from Nawroz University.
