M. A. thesis at the Department of History on the scientific life in Armenia and Azerbaijan from the second century AH until the sixth century AH

The Department of History at College of Arts held a viva for a Master of Arts thesis entitled “SCIENTIFIC LIFE IN ARMENIA AND AZERBAIJAN FROM THE SECOND CENTURY AH / EIGHTH AD UNTIL THE SIXTH CENTURY AH / TWELFTH AD,” on September 13, 2021 at the Graduate Studies Library, College of Arts, partly, attended by the head of the History department, Professor Dr. Nayef Muhammad Shabib, with a number of the faculty’s teachers.The thesis submitted by the student (Haitham Ahmed Mohammed) in the Department of History, dealt with the scientific life in Armenia and Azerbaijan for the historical period of the 2-6 century AH, because science is one of the most important aspects of civilization recommended by Islam and for the dissemination of the Arabic language, Al- Qur’an al- Karim and AL hadith al sharif of the Prophet through science and learning.The study touched on the role of Islam in the emergence of many scholars in Armenia and Azerbaijan after the Muslims conquered them during the reign of Caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, during the second to sixth century AH, especially scholars in the sciences of transmission, especially the science of hadith, readings, interpretation and jurisprudence . Many scholars have also emerged in the humanities such as language, mysticism, history, mental sciences, medicine, pharmacology, theology and philosophy, as well as pure sciences such as arithmetic and geometry.The study aimed to shed light on the importance of Islam in the great scientific renaissance witnessed by both Armenia and Azerbaijan for the period from (8-12 AD). The Muslim rulers encouraged the sciences, built mosques and schools, and honored the scholars so that their reputation would spread in the country, and the literature on various sciences and knowledge in these two regions abounded.The viva’s committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Natiq Saleh Matlab, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Hussein Ali from University of Kirkuk and Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Hashem Abdel Aziz, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Ahmed.
