M. A. thesis in the Department of History on the intervention of Russia in the Syrian crisis 2011-2018 through a historical study

The Department of History at College of Arts held a viva for a Master of Arts thesis entitled “THE RUSSIAN INTERVENTION IN THE SYRIAN CRISIS 2011-2018 – A HISTORICAL STUDY,” on September 14, 2021 in the Hall of Department of History, College of Arts.The M. A. thesis submitted by the student (Mohammad Majeed Hammad) in the Department of History, aims to study the Russian-Syrian historical relations as well as the internal and external factors that led to fueling the conflict in Syria and the consequences of events on the general situation in Syria, as well as the Russian political and military intervention in Syria.The study also sheds light on the Russian role in the Syrian crisis and its reflection on the entire Middle East, as well as its importance in knowing the Russian strategic directions towards the Arab region and knowing the objectives of Russian policy and the pillars on which it depends in preserving its strategic interests in the region.The study concluded that Russia has achieved some goals, including restoring its position and role as an effective force in the international arena, and the international and regional position opposing Russian intervention had great reactions, as the military intervention changed the rules of the game and overturned the political equation among the major countries and regional countries.The viva’s committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Manhal Ismail Hussein, with the membership of Prof. Dr. Thamer Azzam Hamad from the University of Tikrit and Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Muhammad Khudair, and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Nusseibeh Abdulaziz Abdullah.
