PhD thesis in the Department of Sociology on social life in the old city of Mosul through a socio-anthropological study
The Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts held a viva for a PhD thesis entitled (Social Life in the Old City of Mosul – Socio-anthropological Study) on October 24, 2021 at the Faculty of Arts hall, part of which was attended by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Muhammad Afin, with a group of faculty members.The study submitted by the student (Harith Ali Hassan Al-Obaidi) in the Department of Sociology, analyzed the social reality in the old city of Mosul and the great change that affected its urban structure and social organization due to the conflicts and wars that took the old city as its square and field, which produced many phenomena and psychological problems Social, cultural and ecological and redrawn the picture of daily life and its phenomena, materially and morally in the various aspects of life.The thesis aimed to know the nature of social life in the old city of Mosul with its spatial boundaries and sociological locations and to analyze its social processes in a social, anthropological and historical context.The study concluded that the ecological system played a major role in daily life, and that the economic and security conditions left repercussions on the social reality in its three dimensions: personal, institutional and local society.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Harith Hazem Ayoub, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahed Mishaal Abed from the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Zikra Jamil Muhammad from Al-Mustansiriya University, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Jamil Ahmed from Al-Mustansiriya University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Jassem Rashid, and the membership and supervision of Prof. Dr. Khalil Muhammad Hussain.
