The Department of History at the College of Arts held a viva for a PHD thesis entitled “THE POSITION OF VICE PRESIDENT AND HIS ROLE IN AMERICAN POLITICS, DICK CHENEY AS A MODEL 2001-2009,” on November 22, 2021 at the College of Arts hall, part of which was attended by Administrative Assistant, Asst. Professor Dr. Safwan Nazem Daoud with a group of faculty members and teachers.The thesis submitted by the student (Ammar Manhal Muhammad) at the History Department, dealt with a new topic in the history of the United States, which is the position of Vice President in the American political system and how this position developed throughout the country’s political history, reaching the height of the influence of this position at the beginning of the twenty-first century.The study sheds the light on Dick Cheney, who undertook the position of Vice President during the era of President George W. Bush Jr. Also, the study traces the emergence and development of the position of Vice President from 1789 until 2001, reviewing the most important Vice Presidents who occupied the position since the second half of the last twentieth century all the way to Dick Cheney.The study aimed to clarify the importance of the role of the Vice President’s position in American politics by studying the personality of Dick Cheney, his intellectual and political upbringing, and his role in American foreign policy during his tenure during the term of Bush Jr.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Khalil Ali Murad from Salah al-Din University, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Muhammad Afeen, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Saleh Abboush from the College of Education for Human Sciences at Mosul University, Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Salih Saeed and Assistant Professor Dr. Faris Turki Mahmoud from the Center for Regional Studies at the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Muhammad Khudair.
