PhD thesis at the Department of English Language on designing and implementing an EFL syllabus using distance education at university level
The Department of English Language at the college of Arts held a viva for a doctoral thesis entitled “Designing and IMPLEMENTING AN EFL SYLLABUS USING DISTANCE EDUCATION AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL,” on November 23, 2021 at the College of Arts hall, a part of which was attended by the Dean of the College of Arts, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Muhammad Afin, with a group of faculty members and teachers.The thesis submitted by the student (Arwa Loay Abdel-Khaleq) in the Department of English Language, dealt with the design and implementation of the English as a foreign language syllabus using distance education at the university level. It also sought to show the principles on which the RCC language materials are selected, sequenced, and taught to improve learners’ ability effectively, and whether there is a statistically significant difference in the average scores between the pre-test scores and the EG post-test scores.The study aimed to examine whether there is a statistically significant difference in the mean scores between the pre and post test scores of the experimental group that was exposed to a series of experimental lessons and the control group that was not exposed to a series of experimental lessons and the control group that was not exposed to the series of experimental lessons in addition to showing whether There is a statistically significant difference in the mean scores in the post-test scores between EG and CG.The study concluded that the proposed teaching unit has an effective role in learners’ knowledge and skills and constitutes a validated basis for the proposed principles for designing an EFL curriculum using distance learning for Iraqi university learners. The use of such a curriculum helps teachers and learners alike in their teaching and learning of reading comprehension class in distance learning.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nahida Taha Majid from Tikrit University, and the membership of Prof. Hussain Ali Ahmed from Nowruz University, Assistant Professor Dr. Marwan Najib Tawfiq, Assistant Professor Dr. Ansam Ali Ismail from the College of Basic Education at Mosul University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Shuaib Saeed Abed Al-Fattah from the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Mosul, under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Bassem Yahya Jassem.
