Master thesis at the Department of English Language on adjective order in premodification in English and Kurdish through implications for teaching English for Kurd students
The Department of English Language at the College of Arts held a viva on a Master thesis entitled (ADJECTIVE ORDER IN PREMODIFICATION IN ENGLISH AND KURDISH: IMPLICATIONS FOR TEACHING ENGLISH FOR KURD STUDENTS) in March 03, 2022 on the hall of the College of Arts, attended by the Dean of the College of Arts, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Muhammad Afin, and the Administrative Assistant, Safwan Nazim Daoud, along with a group of faculty members and teachers.
The thesis submitted by the student (Ali Hasan Mohammad Ali) at the Department of English Language, dealt with a topic related to the mechanism of adjective succession and the position it occupies before the noun it describes and what are the grammatical, functional and formal characteristics of these adjectives and their relationship with the noun in question. The study provided a description of the succession of adjectives in the Kurdish language and how to teach the subject to Kurdish university students who are learning English as a foreign language.The study assumed that languages belonging to different families are one of the reasons for the challenges faced by language learners, with the aim of presenting these potential challenges that could represent an obstacle for language learners and teachers due to the different grammatical and functional characteristics of the elements of sentences in both languages and the relationship of the elements to each other. Focusing on those differences, which are one of the main objectives of the research, especially since there is a lack of research in this field.The study aims to teach the subject of the succession of adjectives and their succession in the Kurdish language and what is the appropriate way to teach it to Kurdish university students who are educated in Kurdish as a foreign language for the purpose of making the teaching and learning process a success and making it a smooth process.
The panel was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hussain Ali Ahmed from Nowruz University, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Wafaa Muzaffar Ali and Instructor Dr. Hoda Fadel Ismail, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Sanaa Sobeih Othman.
