Doctoral dissertation at the department of Sociology about social care and its role in empowering vulnerable groups: a field study in the city of Mosul

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts held a viva for PHD dissertation entitled “SOCIAL CARE AND ITS ROLE IN EMPOWERING VULNERABLE GROUPS: A FIELD STUDY IN THE CITY OF MOSUL,” on (Sunday), April 17, 2022 in the hall of College of Arts, with the attendance of Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Munir Salem Taha, the Dean of the College of Arts, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Muhammad Afin along with a number of faculty and staff members.The study submitted by the student (Basma Faris Muhammad) in the Department of Sociology, dealt with the vulnerable groups and their growth in society, which is one of the most important and dangerous issues, due to the overlapping of its humanitarian, political and security dimensions. The growth of these valuable groups is obviously noticed in our Iraqi society with the increase of their sufferings from poverty, the loss of their basic rights in education and jobs.The study focused on an important and dangerous issue at the same time, especially in developing countries, due to the increasing number of vulnerable groups as a result of crises, wars and political instability as well as the overlap of the social, economic and political dimensions of this problem. It became a global problem that attracts the attention of those concerned with sociology and those interested in human development and human rights as the other face Poverty, deprivation and loss of equality and social justice.The study aimed to identify the nature of the vulnerable groups in Mosul society and to determine the role of social care in empowering vulnerable groups and to identify the basic social problems facing these groups.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Harith Hazem Ayoub, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Haitham Faisal Ali from Tikrit University, Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Muhammad Ali Hamid from Al-Mustansiriya University, Assistant Professor Dr. Mahdi Abbas Qadir from Salahaddin University and Assistant Professor Dr. Shallal Hamid Suleiman, and under the supervision of and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Jassim Rashid.
