A master’s thesis in the college of Arts on: (Domestic Violence Against the Elderly)

A master’s thesis entitled (Domestic Violence Against the Elderly- A Field Study in the city of Mosul) was discussed on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, at the college of Arts/ Department of Sociology, at the college Hall, with the attendance of a number of the college teachers along with postgraduate students.
The study, presented by Atiya Abd Ali, addressed the problem of domestic violence directed against the elderly as one of the problems that have begun to appear in the Iraqi society in general, and in the city of Mosul in particular.
The study aimed at identifying the types of domestic violence, its causes and its effects on the elderly. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which is that more than 68% of the sample had been exposed to violence by their own sons and daughters, and for women, by husbands, and that 83% of the abused were from an urban background, while 64% confirmed that economic reasons was the motive behind the violence inflicted on them.
