The Arabic Language Department at the College of Arts, University of Mosul held a viva session to examin an MA thesis entitled “The Shimr bin Hamdawe’s Narratives (255 H ) on Ibn Al-Jawzi’s (597 H.) unknown Hadeeth: A Semantic Study ” on Wednesday 15th of May, 2024.

A number of academics and post-graduate students attended the session. The study by (Marwa Ali Abdul Qadir Alpeghambarli) of Arabic Department tackled the narratives of Shimr bin Hamdawe on Inb Al-Jawzl’s unknown Hadeeth. The thesis tackled 98 words; 11 of which on nature(earth and sky), 10 on animals, and 77 on human.
An inductive-descriptive approach has been adopted in the study together with a semantic analysis. The thesis started studying the ‘word’ semantically; it traced the triple root of the word and its relationship to its meaning relying on the dictionary of Al-Maqaayees (the measures) and books of language.
The viva session was presided by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salih Almola of Mosul University, and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Waleed Tawfiq of Northern Technical University /Ninevah
