A Ph.D. thesis at the College of Arts on: Turkey and the issues of the Arab East

 

The College of Arts at the University of Mosul discussed a Ph.D. thesis on: Turkey and the issues of the Arab East, a historical study in the official position 1989-2002, on Sunday, May 5, 2024, which was attended by a number of staff members and graduate students.

The thesis submitted by the student Sabiha Ibrahim Saleh dealt with Turkey’s position on the issues of the Arab East in the era of the early nineties of the last century which shed light on the most prominent issues that have emerged on the political scene of the Arab East countries, including the Kurdish issue in Iraq and Syria and Turkey’s position on it, as well as the water issue in both countries. Added to that, Turkey’s position on the Palestinian issue and the ongoing conflict between regional and international powers in the region, such as Lebanon, and its position on the Israeli attacks on it, as well as Turkey’s position on the presence of United States forces in the Arabian Gulf, And its position on the Second Gulf Crisis and War. The study also dealt with Turkey’s position on the political situation in both Egypt and Sudan.

The study aimed to know Turkey’s position on political developments in the countries of the Arab East, how it dealt with the issues that emerged in these countries after the Cold War, whether it was able to be an influential force in the region, and how it managed to preserve its interests in the region.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Thakir Mohieddin Abdullah, College of Arts, University of Mosul, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Karim Matar Hamza, College of Education for the Humanities, University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Saad Abdul Aziz Muslat, College of Arts, University of Mosul, Asst. Prof. Dr. Iman Ghanem Sharif, College of Arts, University of Mosul, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Hamza Abbas, College of Basic Education, University of Mosul, membership and supervision of Prof. Dr. Luma Abdul Aziz, College of Arts, University of Mosul.
