A PhD dissertation entitled “Complaining in the Seventh Century Poetry “ has been examined at Department of Arabic, College of Arts, University of Mosul, on Sunday 23th of June 2024. The viva session was attended by the dean of College of Arts Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Ufin and a number of academics and post- graduate students.
The dissertation by Ahmed Abid Khalil Al- Taii dealt with complaining in the seventh century poetry. Arabic literature abounds with different topics in different stages due to political, economic, and social situations. The great events of seventh century had their impact on the life of people, poets in particular. Therefore, complaining poetry was their main outlet from the internal conspiracies, conflicts, and dispersion of the nation into disputing states; and external events such as Baghdad’s huge catastrophe by savage and barbarian people who committed atrocities everywhere. These events affected literature in general, and poetry in particular.
The viva session was presided by Prof. Dr. Nawar Abdel Nafi Abdel Majeed Al Dabbagh of University of Mosul, College of Arts.
