Master’s thesis at the College of Arts on Islamic Markets and Their Organizations through the Book Ahkam al-Souq by Yahya bin Omer Al-Andalusi (289 AH / 901 AD)

The Master’s thesis titled “Islamic Markets and Their Organizations through the Book of Ahkam al-Souq by Yahya bin Omer Al-Andalusi ( 289 AH/901 AD)” was discussed in the History Department at the College of Arts, University of Mosul on Monday, November 4, 2024. It was attended by some post-graduate students and teaching staff from the college.
The thesis presented by the student Mahmoud Jalal Ahmed, has reviewed studying the legal and religious organizations included in the book “Ahkam al-Souq” and their role in regulating market activity and economic transactions. This was done by examining the issues directed to him in topics related to the market, covering various fields of financial activities, and extracting the jurisprudential opinions and interpretations deposited by the jurist Yahya bin Omer in his book through the answers he provided, highlighting them, and linking them to the economic reality.
The study aimed to
1- Establishing the legal and legislative market regulations and the Hisbah system and benefiting from this book.
2- Highlighting the great effort made by Muslim jurists since early times in codifying and regulating economic relations in Muslim societies at a time when others were stumbling in the darkness of ignorance.
