College of Arts

The Department of History at the College of Arts held a PhD dissertation defense on “The Military and Security Institution in the Soviet Union 1928–1956” on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The session was attended in part by Prof. Dr. Hatim Fahd Hanno, Dean of the College, the Head of the Department Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed, and a number of faculty members.

The dissertation, presented by student Youssef Mohammed Mustafa from the Department of History, explored the military and security institution in the Soviet Union during the period 1928–1956. The study aimed to shed light on the stages of formation and development of the military and security institutions, and the role they played both domestically and internationally throughout that period.
